For the third tours of the year 2002, the Kyoto Guide Club organized a
hiking tour to Mt. Hiei, the tallest of all the mountains surrounding Kyoto
City. Participants included sixteen foreign residents from nine countries
as well as eight volunteers from the Kyoto International Community House.
Starting at Shugakuin in Kyoto, they climbed a meandering mountain road
to the top of the mountain, where they stopped for an hour long lunch break.
On the way down, they passed through the temple precinct of Enryakuji,
and took the Sakamoto cable car back to Kyoto. This one-day excursion was
well received by the participants, who welcomed this opportunity to explore
Mt. Hiei in the early fall.
